연구소개

인간의 질병은 생물학적 존재로서의 인체와 외부환경의 다양한 상호작용의 결과로 발생한다. 환경적 요인은 좁게는 직업적, 주거환경으로부터 흡연 등의 행동요인, 넓게는 사회경제적 환경, 사회심리적 환경, 생태계, 지구적 수준의 기후변화에 이르기까지 매우 다양하다.  환경역학은 이러한 환경요인이 사람의 건강에 미치는 영향을 규명하고 이와 관련한 건강수준의 변화의 규모와 분포를 기술하며 환경요인과 생물학적 요인의 상호작용을 역학적 방법을 통하여 규명하는 학문분야이다.

 

주된 연구 분야

 

1)기후변화가 건강에 미치는 영향: 지구적, 국지적 기후요인과 건강영향간의 연관성을 밝히고 이를 토대로 적응대책을 수립한다.

 

2)신경질환의 역학과 환경적 요인: 치매, 파킨슨병, ALS  (루게릭병), 다발성경화증, 간질등의 국내 역학적 특성을 규명하고 이와 관련된 환경적 요인에 대해 연구한다.

 

3)유해금속의 건강영향: , 수은, 망간, 카드뮴 등의 직업적, 환경적 노출이 신경계를 비롯한 건강에 미치는 영향을 역학적 방법을 시용하여 규명한다.

 

4)기타: 지역사회 건강수준 평가, 감염병의 환경적 요인에 대한 연구를 수행하고 있음
